Dear Patrons and Friends,

2007 promises to be another rewarding year for lovers of chamber music. 2006 was an outstanding year – celebrating the 250th anniversary of Mozart’s birth and the centenary of the birth of Shostakovich.

How to follow such richness? 2007 proves equally exciting with music embracing 18th – 20th centuries, Haydn, Mozart, Schubert and Beethoven, joined by Bartok, Neilson and Szymanovsky, who died in 1937 and was the influential figure in Polish music in the first half of the 20th century, being influenced by Wagner, Chopin and Schumann.

As we have come to expect, the Allegri Quartet and friends are providing us with a balanced and varied programme. We are delighted to welcome an old friend, James Campbell – clarinet, at the first weekend.

The programme will include:

  • Schubert E flat Quartet
  • A short jazz piece, as an extra
  • Nielsen At the bier of a young artist
  • Mozart Clarinet Quintet
  • Beethoven Quartet Opus 18 No. 4
  • Beethoven Quartet Opus 12 No. 7
  • Beethoven Quartet Opus 59 No. 3
  • Schubert Octet
  • Haydn Quartet Opus 76 No. 1
  • Haydn Quartet Opus 20 No. 6
  • Bartok Quartet No. 6
  • Szymanovski Quartet No. 2
  • As with all spheres of musical ensembles, changes are inevitable and healthy to maintain and enrich the quality of performance. To join our old friends Rafael Todes, Dorothea Vogel and Pal Banda, we welcome Ofer Falk as first violin. He is a distinguished teacher and performer, with an impressive career as soloist, orchestral player and chamber musician. We invite you to join the musicians in June and early July, to enhance your music season and to enjoy exploring the natural beauties of this outstanding area.
