Llanfyllin Festival Young Musicians' year - 2010
Last year we focussed on children, with school workshops, master classes, and a children's concert. This year we are showcasing young musicians, who can have a hard struggle making their way in a highly competitive market. On 5th June we are scheduling a concert at Welshpool Methodist Church, a noted music venue, featuring postgraduate students from Bangor University: Jennifer Jones, flute, Ffiion Davies, soprano, and the saxophone, trumpet and double bass trio Polaris. Do come and enjoy a varied and delightful evening. On Wednesday, 7th July, at the Cain Valley Hotel, Llanfyllin, the vocal group Y Blewyn Gwyn will entertain us, followed by Beck Siàn, a vibrant young singer. An evening of pure pleasure. The Medlock String Quartet (violinists Christopher Jones and Patrick Curlett, violist Robert Guy and cellist Anna Menzies) will join the Allegri on 9th July, to play the beautiful Mendelssohn Octet in St. Myllin's Church, Llanfyllin, giving them an unrivalled experience, and enabling us to enjoy a beautiful and rarely played piece. Former BBC Young Musician of The Year Mark Simpson will perform with the Allegri in the glorious Brahms Quintet on 11th July, again at St Myllin's. On 30th October our Harp Gala at Theatr Hafren will feature many young musicians: Harriet Earis, Colman Connolly, Sian James, Beck Siàn and Alecs Peate with Erdryd Williams - a rousing evening of Welsh and English music and song. We hope to see you there to support these aspiring young artists and have a wonderful time. |
